The Footprints Carved Out for Others to Follow

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the beautiful island of Kauai in Hawaii with my wife, Julie. We were invited by a couple that we have been best friends with for more than twenty years. They had been to Kauai around a dozen times, so they had a lot of inside information on what to do while we were there. We went to many beautiful places, but one of my favorites was called Queen’s Bath. It’s a natural pool carved into lava rocks by powerful waves from the ocean over the course of many years. The path to get there involved a steep climb down the side of a hill, then a trek over rocks and ocean inlets, and finally, the pool where people could jump in and float around amidst one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. Our friends told us, “Please step into the footprint marks that have been made by many others who have visited this place before us. Otherwise, you will have a difficult time getting there.” As we carefully hiked, I placed my feet into footprints that had been carved into the path by people who had gone before me. Our friends coached us the whole way, and we listened to them carefully. I was so thankful for their thoughtful guidance based on years of experience, and for the footprints in the side of the hill and along the ocean of so many people who had gone before us.

Just like our friends in Kauai, BGU has many people in our network who have gone before us and shown us the way to be more effective transformational leaders in cities and countries around the world. Our faculty members are all scholar-practitioners, meaning that they have years of hands-on experience and carefully guide the way forward for their students. They have carved out their own footprints, which create a path for others to follow. BGU offers an invitation to adventure and journey alongside those who have gone before us through our degree programs and our certificate courses. Over the course of the next year, we will have city immersion courses taking place in the Triangle Cities in North Carolina during October/November 2025, in Kingston, Jamaica in January/February 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in May 2026, and in Los Angeles in October/November 2026. Our Executive Coaching program is in full swing with many opportunities for leaders to jump in and learn from coaches who serve as thoughtful guides. We have amazing leaders in our online graduate-level and certificate courses who are ready and willing to show the way to others. The possibilities are endless with the options that are available to our BGU global community to grow in a relationship with God and to impact others. Now is a great time to join the adventure as a student or as an educational experience!
