Recruiting for BGU - #3 Revisit Your Dissertation

Many BGU graduates have said they want to help current students be successful to graduation, but they don’t have the financial resources to donate to BGU. Most BGU students come through relationships and word of mouth. Every BGU graduate has the ability to make a significant contribution to the BGU family by introducing new potential students to what BGU has to offer.

By the time most of us finished our dissertation and graduated, we were ready to move on to other projects. Researching and writing a dissertation is a detailed process. Often the process opens up new opportunities and interests that become our focus after graduation. However, we poured a lot of our experience, thoughts and heart into our dissertation. Some students immediately start writing more popular articles from excerpts in their dissertation. However, most students need a little time for their work to “rest” before they revisit it. These students have found that after about 3-5 years, it is time to re-read their dissertation.

When revisiting a dissertation, it is helpful to think about what you wrote and what new experiences you have had since graduation that might be helpful to others, especially in shorter sections in social media posts. When you post these on your website, blogs, social media sites or podcast with a reference to your BGU dissertation it opens up conversations with others who might be interested in going deeper in their own project. Any time you reference your BGU dissertation, it becomes an avenue for helping the BGU family find new potential students.

BGU offers help for this rewriting process through Dr. Susan Spousta’s BGU Writers Community which meets every quarter. For more information, please write info@bgu.edu.
