Crises all over the world feel as if the ground is shifting, and we have trouble with our internal balance. This reminds us of Peter when he stepped out of the boat and was overwhelmed by the turbulent sea. We desire to step out, like Peter did, full of faith and a focus on Jesus.
Unfortunately, our eyes are like his, can’t stay focused on Jesus, and are distracted by what is in our periphery. How do we keep our hearts, minds, and will focused on what is important for life and flourishing? Peter was a little impetuous, quick to jump in, slow to discern if his desire could sustain action. Where do you find yourself in this story? Do you see Jesus in the storm with you, or do you become overwhelmed by the storm? Reread the story for yourself and ask the question: Where is Jesus in my storms? What do I need to help me focus on his presence?
Pray along with the BGU community for people to stand by the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, the oppressed, the poor, the broken-hearted, and the differently abled community in our world.
