My Transformative Journey with BGU EMBA - Ivan Sia, Malaysia

Pursuing an Executive MBA with BGU has been a profoundly transformational experience, particularly because of the program’s focus on Transformational Leadership. This 36-credit hour program has equipped me with the necessary skills to lead effectively in today’s complex business environment and aligned my leadership approach with Christian values, fostering a deep sense of purpose and responsibility.

Emphasis on Transformational Leadership

The core of this program revolves around transformational leadership, which has reinforced my sense of calling, personal integrity, authenticity, and self-awareness. It also helps me embrace servant leadership within my local church, social, and business communities, with a global perspective enlightened with Shalom and the reconciliatory power of prophetic leadership.

It’s a leadership style that goes beyond managing tasks and processes to inspiring and motivating others to achieve their highest potential. This approach has encouraged me to lead by example, embodying the values and ethics I wish to instill in others, for authentic leadership is not about power or authority but service, humility, and a commitment to the greater good. Jesus’ leadership style was transformational — He led by serving others, inspiring change, and fostering a sense of community and purpose among His followers. This program has helped me integrate these principles into my leadership ethos, emphasizing the importance of leading with integrity, compassion, and a commitment to ethical practices.

Integrating Faith and Business

One of the most impactful aspects of this program has been the integration of faith and business. Biblical principles are woven into every course, providing a unique perspective on leadership and management. This approach has challenged me to rethink the purpose of business and leadership from a Christian worldview. I have learned that business is not just a vehicle for profit but a platform for serving others and positively impacting the world. This perfectly aligns with two faith-driven organizations I work with: The Encubator (www.the-encubator.com), a BGU-alumni-founded social impact enterprise to transform biblical entrepreneurship, and the C12 Forums (www.joinc12.com), a missional peer coaching organization helping Christian leaders to build great businesses for A Greater Purpose globally.

The courses I completed that explored systems, ethics, and leadership have emphasized the importance of seeking after God’s Kingdom and making decisions based on shared Christian values and principles, like integrity, trustworthiness, and stewardship. This has added a firm spiritual dimension to my understanding of success, moving beyond financial metrics to include the well-being of stakeholders and the broader community. It has also reinforced the idea that leadership is a calling and that, as leaders, we are accountable to our stakeholders and God.

Personal and Professional Growth

The transformational learning in this program has extended beyond the classroom. It has profoundly influenced my personal and professional life, helping me grow as a spouse, parent, executive coach, business mentor, and leader. Through rigorous coursework, reflective assignments, and collaborative projects, I have developed a deeper understanding of my strengths and areas for growth. This process of self-discovery has been essential in shaping my leadership philosophy and approach.

The Executive MBA program with Bakke has continued to equip me with the skills and knowledge to lead and serve more effectively as a steward for Christ, positively impacting my spiritual walk and enriching my relationships. The transformative leadership focus has reshaped my thinking, instilling the importance of service, integrity, and a commitment to positively impacting the world as Christ compels. As I continue my leadership journey, the lessons learned in this program will guide me in leading with purpose and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
