We hope you can join us for some conversation around Dr. Randy White’s presentation, Pain and Promise: Creative Writing as a Pathway to Transformation. We’re anticipating a robust discussion and, in anticipation, feel free to bring a piece of your own creative writing to the “table.” In addition, consider the following points as you prepare to contribute to our dialogue: 

• In what ways have you considered venturing beyond your usual mechanisms for communication? What risks are present when, as a writer, you “venture beyond” your norm?

• How might creative writing help you process both the beauty and pain in your life? How might you “step back” from the personal expression of pain and beauty to find a more universal, relatable expression for your readers?

• How can fictional characters open the door for readers to gain insight into their own life stories?
