Presentation Title:   RESEARCH LIKE A PRO

As an accomplished historian and researcher, Pat will demonstrate what it means to conduct legitimate research—from the “library” to in-person interviews. We’ll enjoy learning some trade secrets to keep historical facts, dates, events, and cultural representation accurate with the goal of enriching the character development and concepts we wish to communicate. Whatever the genre of your writing, Pat is sure to enhance and challenge your current research methods.

About the Guest Speaker:

Our guest presenter, Pat Lindsay Fletcher, was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. She graduated from Queen’s High School, earned a certificate in social work from the University of the West Indies. Pat relocated to Brampton, Ontario, Canada in 1987 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from York University. She had a successful twenty-five-year career as a broker in commercial insurance.

Pat’s interest in writing has been a lifelong endeavor. She has consistently journaled since her early twenties and co-wrote and produced two plays before her retirement in 2015. After her return to Jamaica, Pat is currently employed as a certified publishing coach with Authorpreneur Secret Academy, founded by BGU graduate Ruth Taylor. Pat published her first book entitled  HEZEKIAH: Many Houses, One Life in 2021. The historical/fictional family saga required extensive fact-finding and cultural exploration, leading Pat to apply her accurate research in creative writing, a passion she discovered at university. Recently, she began work (and, yes, research) on a non-fiction book, When God Visits.
