This project focused on helping the Grade 7 students improve their expression in standard English as they acquired basic skills, and concepts, and enhanced their self-esteem. The participants for the treatment group were 10 Grade 7 students from Nehemiah Comprehensive School (NCS), a private institution, whereas the participants for the control group were 10 Grade 7 students from Freeburg Secondary School (FSS), a government institution.
The quasi-experimental research design was used in the project. The treatment involved teaching variables of the English language, skills acquisition, and self-esteem, and lasted for 10 weeks in the second term of the school year, 2018 - 2019. The resources for the treatment were the syllabi from the Guyana, Ministry of Education.
The hypotheses of the study are as follows:
1. There is a relationship between the English language, skills acquisition, and self-esteem.
2. There is a relationship between the teaching of the English language, skills acquisition, and the written expression of students in the English language.
3. There is a relationship between the teaching of the English language and a student’s self-esteem.
4. There is a relationship between the teaching of the skills subject and students’ self-esteem.
The transformation anticipated was unrealized because the results for the treatment group were negligible.
