Dangerous Doctorate Degrees

Traditional doctorate degrees are notorious for focusing on academic research of minutia. A familiar joke in universities is “A PhD is learning more and more about less and less until you know the most about the least more than anyone else in the world.”

BGU’s doctoral degrees focus on transformational projects. They are dangerous to the status quo and complacency. They include rigorous research, but the research is focused on what must be discerned in order to transform a community or organization. Each dissertation includes identifying the “customer” of the research. The question is asked, “Who must be convinced by this research to engage in the transformation?” Past BGU doctorates have been used to convince legislators in Jamaica and the Philippines to enact new laws. Others have been used to create new sustainable businesses, new urban initiatives, or recruit partners, donations, and investments to collective impact projects.

Titles of recent or upcoming BGU dissertations include:

  • The Influence of Youth Empowerment Programs on Poverty Alleviation: A Study of Three Churches in Ibadan, Nigeria

  • Impact of Community Violence on Primary School in Centerville, Bahamas

  • Unethical Leadership Among Political Elites Involved in Public Administration in Uganda: Strategies for Mitigation and Ethical Redirection

  • Developing and Stewarding a Business Collaboration Platform in Singapore Using Biblical Perspectives and Principles: A Kingdom-Driven Platform Design Approach

  • A Study on the "Fresh Expressions of Church" in Korea as a Model of Missional Church: A Qualitative Study of Christian Social Enterprise for the Mentally Disabled

  • Holistic Education in Faith-Based Universities in Kenya: Exploring the Impact of Integrated Education on Graduates’ Character Development and Ethical Leadership

  • The Importance of Mentoring in the Lives of Young People: The Developing of Adolescent Girls

  • The Addictive Nature of Entrepreneurship: Its Contribution, Foundation, and Potential Redirection for the Benefit of the Individual and Community

  • Intentionally Developing United States Airforce Squadron Commanders

BGU’s 2025 graduation will be held in Dallas Texas on June 7. At this point in February, graduating doctoral students are busy with final edits and oral reviews. It is a time of excitement as well as a time of financial need as BGU staff are all-hands-on-deck with urgent coaching to meet the graduation deadlines.

Will you prayerfully consider a donation to BGU this month? Your gift will be leveraged into strategic, practical action that will make a significant difference throughout the world.
