Thriving in the City - Books by Aaron Smith

Dr. Aaron Smith has been involved in ministry among the urban poor in Manila, Philippines since the late 90’s. He serves with Servant Partners as the Manila team leader and has been involved in church development and church planting. Aaron currently serves as the assistant pastor of the church he helped plant.


Aaron also serves at Asian Theological Seminary as the program director for Transformational Urban Leadership. This is a program specifically designed to provide masteral level education for pastors, church workers, and NGO's working among the urban poor. As program director he teaches several classes including Hermeneutics with the Urban Poor, Community Economics, and Justice, Oppression, and Urban Poverty.


He earned a Masters of Divinity from Asian Theological Seminary in Manila, Philippines, and a Doctor of Ministry from Bakke Graduate University in Seattle, Washington. His publications include scholarly articles and two books, Thriving in the City (Servant Partners Press 2015) and The Gospel of Luke on Poverty and Urban Ministry (Urban Loft 2018). Aaron and his wife and two boys currently live in a squatter community in Manila, Philippines.
