Christ Kitchen: Loving Women Out of Poverty by Jan Martinez

Christ Kitchen: Loving Women Out of Poverty is a new book by Dr. Jan Martinez, The Christ Kitchen Director and author of Christ Kitchen: Loving Women Out of Poverty, graduated with a D.Min degree from BGU in June 2009.

Since 1998, Jan Martinez has operated Christ Kitchen, a successful nonprofit job-training program in Spokane, Washington. Inspired by the mentoring approach Jesus used with the Samaritan woman at the well, Jan challenges common misconceptions of the poor and offers practical and proven approaches for helping others overcome poverty, hopelessness, and the cycle of abuse.

Christ Kitchen is Jan Martinez’s compelling true story of how she turned a horrific personal tragedy into a life dedicated to loving and mentoring women on the outskirts of society.

A Miraculous Story...
The story begins in 1980 as Jan writes, “I awoke with a knife at my neck and the palpable pounding of a rapist’s heartbeat on my chest.” So began Christ Kitchen—a story about redemption and healing based on the experience that molds the author’s life, brings her to faith, and fans a passion to help desperate women living in poverty. Jan’s story of women living in poverty in her city reflects the reality in many cities across America today.“
