Dr. Marlene Hines VP, BGU Alumni Association has an article published in a Special Issue of the Caribbean Journal of Education and Development (CJED) Vol. 1, no.3, 2024, School of Education, University of the West Indies (UWI). The article is a report of a study done on an inner city community in Kingston, Jamaica; Drewsland, which was her final assignment of the BGU ABCD/AI course in 2014, led by Dr. Kit Danley.
Many of the study participants, particularly the community leaders, had shared with Marlene their frustration with their participation in research on their community with no follow-up action and so hoped that her study will make a difference. Dr. Danley has also encouraged Marlene after a class presentation of the study and on other occasions after her graduation to ensure that she implements a related community development program in Drewsland.
So with the desire to keep her word to the research participants and to Dr. Danley, Marlene took the opportunity to present findings of her research at the University of the West Indies two-day virtual conference held on March 25-26, 2021 with the theme "Moving Research Beyond Academics: Transforming our Societies through Collaboration and Action."
The members of the UWI Transformation Conference Team then invited Marlene to write an article related to her Conference presentation for publication in the Special Issue of the then Caribbean Journal of Education which was later subsumed into a new journal of the School of Education, UWI, the Caribbean Journal of Education and Development. The CJED is a peer reviewed journal. The article which is titled "Asset-Based Community Development and Appreciative Inquiry(ABCD/AI) Approach to Community Transformation: The Case of Drewsland" is therefore the 2nd peer review article of Dr. Hines and is accessible HERE and also on the ResearchGate website.
