Alumni News - August 2025

The BGU Alumni Association aims to expand its networking capacity among and between its globally representative alumni through the establishment of regional alumni associations in five continents of the world (Africa, North & South America, Asia, and Europe). Recently, four new Alumni Regional Representatives has been appointed in the following regions: Africa, Canada, USA, and the Caribbean. The Regional Alumni Representatives are:

1. Africa- Dr. Gorden Simango

2. Canada- Dr. Nita Kotiuga

3. Caribbean- Dr. Veda Ram

4. U.S.A.- Mrs. Judy Capps (MATL)

This is the first phase of a strategic plan to foster the networking impact of the BGU alumni globally. Therefore, we focused on the establishment of three Alumni Association Groups by December 2025: Africa, Canada, and the U.S.A. We have also reenergized the Caribbean Regional Alumni Group. So far, members of the African and Caribbean Alumni Groups have been formally introduced to their Regional Representatives, and the first meeting of the African group is scheduled for a date in August via Zoom.

The second phase of this BGU Alumni Association strategic direction will include the establishment of regional alumni networks in Europe, South & Latin America. Asia has an active group led by Dr. Jeremy Gwee of Singapore. We intend to facilitate and foster a closer relationship with this BGU Alumni Group in Asia to support and guide the expansion to all countries in Asia where Bakke Graduate University has students and graduates.

Former Alumni President, Dr. Leroy Hurt established the first BGU Alumni Chapter in Alabama, U.S.A. This group had been relatively active, but hasn't had a meeting recently. Therefore, Judy Capps, Alumni Regional Representative for the USA, will focus on the revitalization of the group. She will also explore the possibility of establishing additional alumni groups in other states or a general USA group based on the location of the BGU alumni in the U.S.A.

The Caribbean alumni chapter was established in 2023. Its major achievement is organizing the Caribbean Prayer Conference, which was inspired by the need to seek God’s face for a solution to the crisis in Haiti, as guided by 2 Chronicles 7:14. Dr. Veda Ram is the second Regional Representative of the BGU Caribbean Alumni Association since the first Regional Representative had resigned in 2023.

The BGU Leadership Group of President Dr. Bryan McCabe, Chancellor Dr. Brad Smith, Academic Dean Dr. Belete Mebratu, and Dr. Martine Audéoud (Advisor to the President) have been giving much support to the Alumni Association over the years. We encourage all BGU alumni to play an active role in a local BGU Alumni Association Group to impact the work and ministry in the country or region and to support and promote the BGU alma mater.

The alumni group in Jamaica will play an active role in the upcoming BGU City Immersion in Kingston, Jamaica, in January 2026. BGU is also seeking the assistance of members of the Alumni Group in North Carolina to provide support for the upcoming Tri-Cities Immersion scheduled for October 24 – November 2, 2025. Please reach out to Dr. Paulette Jordan, Dr. Godspower Ugboh, Dr. Nita Kotiuga, Dr. Dot Reju, or to our new USA Alumni Regional Representative, Judy Capps, in order to determine how you can make this city Immersion a resounding success.
